You can do this by, for example:
- Ensuring participants believe that keeping track of risks is beneficial
- Ensuring participants are motivated and engaged
- Using visual means, e.g. cardboard cards and Post-Its
- Adding a third dimension: Dedectability
- Ensuring that the focus is on the most important 10
- Identifying risk owners and risk handlers
- To facilitate the creation of action plans
- Use simple spreadsheets or software
- Securing an experienced meeting leader/facilitator
WHAT IS DETECTABILITY?
Detectability is a measure of how far in advance you can see if a risk or opportunity is about to occur.
For example, the ability to predict a storm with high water levels is highly predictable because meteorologists have good models to predict this.
On the other hand, meteorologists have a low deductibility to predict where localized hail the size of ping pong balls may occur.
ADVANTAGE
Usually, most people only use impact and probability to assess the severity of a risk.
Adding detectability gives you a better opportunity to sort out the most dangerous risks from a larger pool of risks.
In FMEA (Failure Mode Effect Analysis), detectability is used as the third parameter to select the most significant elements.
