SUSTAINABLE RISK MANAGEMENT

EFFECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT

HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE EFFECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT?

Effective risk analysis:

  • Ensure participants with diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Ensure you can easily update the risk and opportunity register
  • Ensure key stakeholders participate in the analysis
  • Use posters, cardboard maps and have participants stand up
  • Workshops with a facilitator ensure efficient use of time and you don’t get off on a tangent.

Powerful tools:

  • Excel spreadsheet to record risks & action plans as well as opportunities and opportunity development
  • Excel charts showing Executive Summary: Top 5 Risks and Top 5 Opportunities
  • Excel charts showing all data, e.g. grouped into groups: Project Management, Product, Environment, Organization, etc.

RAM: RISK, ASSUMPTIONS & OPPORTUNITIES REGISTER
We use an Excel program to register risks, assumptions and opportunities (RAM) in one Excel program.

This offers some advantages, as you treat the three conditions in exactly the same way.

SIMPLE RAM REGISTER
This is a simple version of a risk diagram, where only impact and probability are shown.

This is often not enough to identify the most significant/dangerous risks.

Therefore, dedectability is added – i.e. the degree to which you are able to see the risk in question well in advance – before it occurs.

Below is an expanded risk diagram where the dedectability of the risk elements is included. Now it’s easier to find the risks that have a high impact, a high probability, AND are difficult to detect early on.

RISK WORKSHOPS
We offer to help you with risk workshops to ensure effective analysis and engagement of all participants.

This can contribute to a good project start-up and ensure you get an effective picture of risks, assumptions and opportunities.

Then you can create action plans for the most important elements.
